Last week, the British Golf Museum began work on its biggest
refurbishment project in its 13 year history. It will be necessary
for the Museum to be closed to the public while this work is being
done. The Museum staff are planning many exciting changes for
visitors in the year ahead.
The windows at the front of the building are to be replaced with
a much improved double glazing and a brand new draught lobby.
Also, the reception foyer will transformed into a bright, more
welcoming space, giving a much greater sense of the history and
emotions of golf from the moment a visitor walks through the doors.
As part of this, the retail area is being greatly expanded. These
changes are aimed to improve the visitors overall experience making
it a more pleasurable place to visit.
As well as increasing the retail space, the range of products
will be extended and improved to reflect the Museum’s unique
and diverse golf collection. Alison Wood, Museum Manager, and
her team are currently working on an exciting range of new products
which offer the visitor a greater selection of gifts and golf
souvenirs. The project is expected to last approximately 12 weeks
and the Museum aims to re-open early April 2004. There will be
regular updates on the website.
